For Beginners

Just Getting Started at Trillium?

If you have never taken a yoga class before it might feel a bit intimidating to get started. We want you to feel welcome and we are happy to answer any questions you may have. We are honored to be part of your beginning and continuing yoga journey.

How to choose a yoga class

Choosing a class and a teacher are individual, personal decisions only the student can make. We recommend looking at the class descriptions, taking into consideration if you feel it will fit your needs. You may want to try several classes until you find the best one for you.

Any class that states it is appropriate for beginners in the description is probably a good place to start. If you are not sure if a class is right for you, or you want to know more about the class, feel free to contact the teacher and ask any questions you have. Yoga teachers want to serve their students as best they can. Part of teaching is helping students find a class that is appropriate for them.

Registration and Payment

We use a web based registration system. Students create an account, using their email address and a password. Once in the system, it is simple to choose a class, pre-register, and pay for the class. Pre-registration is helpful because you know you have your spot and the teacher knows you are planning to attend. This is especially important now, because class size is limited in order to comply with Covid social distancing requirements.

Most students will want to purchase a punchcard online, using a debit or credit card. We offer two options, a five class card @ $65/three months and a ten class card @ $120/six months. Class cards may be used for any class. Students can use their card to take a variety of classes or one class, whatever they wish. Our online system will keep track of class cards and will let you know when you need to buy a new card. The drop-in rate is $15 per class.

Teachers sometimes offer session classes for a specific number of dates, say once a week for six weeks. In that case, the student would pre-register and pay for all the classes at once.

If you prefer to pay in person, we accept cash, checks, or credit/debit cards.

Arrive a few minutes before the class starts

New students will need to sign a release and purchase a class card or pay the drop-in fee before the class starts. If you are taking a session class, the full fee is due on the first day of the class. Arriving early will give you the opportunity to meet your teacher, check-in, gather your gear, and get comfortable before the class starts.

Pease enter the classroom quietly. This helps to set the transition into sacred space. Arriving early is a sign of respect for your self, your fellow students, and your teacher.

Yoga is best practiced at least 1-2 hours after a light meal. If you do eat before class, please limit yourself to something minimal, such as a piece of fruit. Do not bring food into the studio.

Feel free to bring a closed water bottle with you to class.

Dress comfortably

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing. Avoid any clothes or jewelry that constrict movement or breathing, especially at the waist and neck.

Yoga Gear

Trillium students may use the props provided, including yoga mats. For most classes you will need a sticky mat, blocks, a blanket, and a strap. You are welcome to bring your own mat or other props if you like.

Changing Rooms and Bathrooms

We share access to the bathrooms located in the Community Center. Bathrooms may be used as changing rooms.
